An injury and a decision

To the decision first, I was offered a 3 year extention to my contract with the military, and I am going to accept it, which puts my dreams of going pro on the back burner, but I am happy with the dicision. There were a ton of things standing in the way to me being able to move to Vegas notwithstanding the desire to do it.

As for the injury, I was playing ball hockey with other coworkers on tuesday when I, as goaltender, attempted to slide across to make a save, but got my stick caught in the net, which wrenched my back around violently. I have been on ice and heavy painkillers, but am starting to feel better. Back injuries are no fun.

Wow, that was a short pro career. One setback and you're out. I guess that's the route for many internet players who think that they can make it as tournament pros (sounds denegrating, but I'm sure this happens alot to players who aren't 1/2 as talented as you). I hope you keep updating your blog, it has been a fairly interesting read. It seemed like you were going to really focus on being a pro player, was it just the trip that made you realize it was tougher than you anticipated? It would definitely me a tough career emotionally for someone who can't deal with the losses well...this is one of my shortcomings as well. I'd be interested in what made you change your mind so suddenly. I'm sure you'll continue to be a serious amateur player, hope all goes well .

Dave,

In all fairness, Fellknight never went "pro", he made the decision TO GO pro in August. Since he's had a few setbacks, he's made the rational decision to wait a little longer, plus the fact that he can resign with the military for 3 more years vs. the 20 years originally thought.

I commend Fell for making this decision, knowing that it would be hard to do for himself, let alone what "others might say" since he made his intentions public.

Kudos Jordan.

Dave,

Indeed, I never actually went pro. When I was presented with a 22 year contract, my immediate thoughts were "I don't want to commit to that long".

There are a myriad of reasons why I made this reversal of decision, one of the major points being that a move to the States would consume a very large portion of my starting bankroll, and I would be taking a huge risk of failure simply by not being properly prepared. If that happened, I would be forced to seek a job elsewhere, and I highly doubt that I could find a comparable job there as I have here.

I have been successful as a semi-pro, and so I will continue.

Tanya,

Thank you. I knew it would be difficult and that I would face ridicule from some people who delight in the failure of others (not talking about you Dave). You know what this decision meant. I only hope it all works out for the best :)

Hey Fell...

Didn't mean to come across so negatively, just didn't think that you should throw away your ambitions due to one poker trip. Hope all goes well and that you keep up the blog.

Dave,

No worries. I certainly am still interested in doing it, but only if I can do it right.

Better suggestion:

I'm not a goalie. Don't make me play one :)
